Thank you very much for your good suggestion! BTW, does a PHD generally "slave" for 5 years in US? I know a person who finished his MS and PHD in three years. Is that a rare case?
From BS to PhD in three years???
Not in engineering field from tier One universities.
On the other hand, you can buy one from paper mill schools. you don't even need to attend class.
PS. I also want to add my comment regarding "slave". I used to joke that my academic colleagues use phd students as slaves. My colleagues said their students are sweat equity holders. The advisors sweat bullet & blood to secure the grand to fund the student. The student put up the sweat to complete the project. When they are done, the student get paid at the end. Since student did not secure the funding, they are at the mercy of the boss.
My kids were phd students but their life style is anything but slave. Then again, they are different because they obtained their own grants. Their advisor (commonly known to chinese students as boss), only gave them academic support. They do the same as post doc. The schools have no financial obligation regarding their employment. They don't earn as much as oilfield workers, but they do what they love to do.
I mean the "slave" with quotation is a joke. I know some graduate students in domestic universities actually are cheap labors.I believe the situation in US should be better. But it also depends on different persons, right? Some professors maybe very nice. Some maybe tough. But whatever case, doing what I love is worthwhile as you say.
