美国的采油工程和油藏工程现在是什么情况啊，哪个好呢？如果各有所长的话具体情况又是怎么样的呢？

工作环境，收入吧。。。。我还想了解下美国教授中从事采油工程的多吗？我在查看从精准石油论坛上下载的资料发现，OU，Tulsa教授大多是油藏的，采油的比较少，这是为什么啊？

You set your bar too low. Do you want a family? Do you want your children be proud of your job?

工作环境 depends on external environment and yourself, some like outdoor while other prefer indoor, oil & gas career provides both, However, if you are not flexible or limited by your ability, you may not have the option.

收入strictly depends on your ability (for those working in US). while the compensation for oil&gas careers can be very high. It comes with very high human cost. O&G careers reward risk takers, by that if you are successful, it pays you handsomely. On the same token, by lady luck's hand, you may deal with a pair of jokers and cash in your chip earlier than normal average workers. All but one of my ex-boss died of heart related problems. I changed job more than a handful. I myself had two heart operations. Divorce, separation, and other mental issues are very common among o&g workers. Long hours and high job stress are the norm for high 收入 level o&g workers. While high 收入 may provide a living for your family, you may not able to enjoy your family. Oil companies have image problem in US. It is very unfortunately that most talented US students stay away from O&G careers. The fact that all my kids avoid o&g careers despite their impressed academic achievement. Most of my colleagues' kids do the same. My kids took post doc positions that earn 1/3 what I pay for recent BS graduated. you may say they are slackers but they are not. All my kids were ranked in academic. One is doing RD on heart muscle rebuilding in Boston, another one is looking for dark matter in Princeton.


You may said "i'm not a risk taker", if so, your o&g career can be very short. You will either hit the ceiling and get bored or get kicked out in the next layoff cycle.

so if 工作环境，收入 are your only life goal, welcome to o&g. Be warned, be careful what you wish, you may get it.

BTW, unlike china, while chinese students call their professors "boss"; in US, professors do not responsible for your employment. So be prepared to join the unemployed after school. Also, anti-immigration is now settling in US, if you are not an US citizen or legal alien, you will have problem.

As the next generation tells me life 最基本的要素 is "be happy" and "be yourself".

And I think they have the right mindset.

油藏是大路货，干的人多，博士也多。采油读个博士很多时候卖不出去。

As I mentioned many times, for "工作环境，收入吧", financial sector offer the best match.Average fund manager makes more 收入than a senior O&G specialist, as for 工作环境, unless you prefer outdoor like me, you will be in office setting.Financial sector hires more MIT ChE graduates than Harvard business graduates
