For those who are interested in microscopic identification of sediments (especially lake sediments), you really should take a close look at LacCore (National Lacustrine Core Facility)'s TMI website.

It's also a great database for those working on sedimentary petrology, paleoclimate, palaeontology and environmental geology etc.

I had the opportunity to visit LacCore in the summer 2011; great people, great facilities, great training/education, great online resources... If you are a graduate student working on lake sediments, training and travel grants are available.
