本人今年硕士毕业，学的是石油物探。主要研究方向是：地震资料解释，岩石物理，测井解释方面的。
可以去一家国企的测井公司，但是真心不想做测井，因为不是感兴趣的点，于是又面了哈里伯顿，被录了。可以去兰德马克，做我喜欢的地震还有岩石力学方面的东西。虽然说外企解决不了北京户口，但是我也不在乎，但是最让我犹豫的是，他们的方式是一直到今年毕业之后，才与我签订工作合同，这半年，没有什么OFFER LETTER。虽然和他们的HR打了很多次电话，对方态度很好，让我别担心，肯定没问题的。实在是让我觉得没有什么保障，心里也着急。何况还有个国企可以去。
所以想问问有过经历的朋友，现在外企都是这样不给offer，毕业后才签合同么？

Employment contract is Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA), a legal instruement. It is illegal to disclose to non employee. So, how can a company give you a employment contract before you are an employee?

BTW, offer is not legally binding. Offer is a moral obligation (义务) instruement. Either party can withdraw without legal consequence. On the other hand, once signed, employment contract is legally binding. Withdraw before the contract fulfilled will have financial penalty. For US companies, you normally sign the contract when you report to work.

这个问题问的。。。。 我要是能预测就该直接去炒期货了。。。

我觉得肯定不会一直维持在现在这么高，因为现在的油价是由于伊朗问题导致的虚高。但是也不回跌破70美元/每桶。毕竟油价暴涨然后暴跌是经济危机的前兆，而次贷危机那种规模的经济危机在接下来的几年应该不会再发生了。

High prices do not equate to high employment rate for oil&gas industry, as least not for long term. In fact, the highier prices historically followed by layoff and companies mergers and closing. The only sure way for high employment rate is stable & affordable price that keep the world economy moving in the right direction.

For those who just signed the employment contracts, highier prices mean you are in line for being cut. The HR just waiting for the signal from the financial report showing sign of economy slowing down. Remember the rule in employment, Last in, first out.

For students waiting to join the industry, remember this rule, highier prices means you will competite with more experienced workers who got laidoff.

So if you are as smart as you should, don't pray for high prices, pray for good economy.

Signing the employment contract does not mean you got an "iron bowl", at least not in texas. Texas is an " at will" state. It means that both parties can terminate the employment at will. What it means is you are free to leave the company anytime and the company can fire you anytime. That said, employment contract requires you to give the company advance notice if you leave and company give you severance pay if they layoff you. All the financial terms should be in your contract. Read it carefully before you sign.

In US, an offer letter can be as simple as an email, but most of the time, is a letter with company letterhead. It should has the expiration date, your position & expected report to work date. It may or may not state your compensation package.

Whether you accept the offer or not, you should reply to the sender by email or letter with a Thank You note to confirm that you have received the offer.

If you decide not to accept, you should notify your intend to the company and people who interviewed you.

Are you a student?

Anyway, each situation is unique, you should contact the HR to work out a mutual acceptable solution.

Are you a student?

Thanks, letter of intent is just an instrument telling the application the company will make you an offer upon certain conditions are fulfilled, for example, upon your graduation, pass the physical and medical examine, etc.

In general, it serves the same purpose of offer letter except leaving elbow room to withdraw.
