师兄您好， 我是中国石油大学（北京）本科大四，今年申请出国，想从事神水钻井，我知道OU在这方面很有实力，不知师兄能介绍几个这方面的导师吗？我在主页上看到了教授，也去了ou的网站，没有具体提到深水方面的，谢谢师兄

Go to your library or SPE site, find out who had published paper regarding deepwater drilling or subject that you are interested , do a statistic to pinpoint their author/school/professor, then start making connection with your desired school/professor. Develop your self help skill and not your "ask for hand down" unless you are not interested being a top scientist. Sooner or later, top scientist will be called on to solve problem that has no prior example. Without "Me and me only will handle it" mentality, you wouldn't make it to the top.


BTW, when will chinese students stop looking for a phd program that has immediate impact on oil&gas industry. If the project has a direct and immediate impact, the industry will do the research inhouse or by a consortium (eg deepstar for common deepwater related problems). All academic research by definition are long term and broad base. Funding a academic program costs more than just simple student school fee and living expenditure, the sponsor has to pay for the adminstration fees and general expenditure. Other than it is costly and time consuming, the sponsor has less control of the research direction (eg, like the start and ending of the project are neatly tie to school year). Hence, sponsors don't farm out current urgent project to university as phd program. If you are really into deepwater drilling, pick a program that give you firm foundation for conventional drilling, then try to do post-doc work for consortium or join a drilling company.As I said many times in this forum, there is no difference between deepwater and onshore fields, the only difference is the operating environment. Until you become an outstandarding driller in conventional operation, you will not be hired for deepwater operations. Deepwater operation is very unforgiving, it can't afford mistakes. Hence only experienced hands can be deepwater staff.

In short, you can't look for a phd program to match up today's specialist job opening. (Unless you can secure your own funding for the research project)
