In US, there is a national discussion whether an academic degree is good or bad for innovation. The argument i as follows:

can work as field hand.

As long as you can say "Do you want frys with your order", kids can get a job at fast food joints.

Anything is possible. Practically, almost no international student working as field hand since it is hard to qualify for H1b. There is a lot limitation for immigrates from China. And H1b and green card is one big disadvantage.

More practically for OP, working for Baker for a few years and going to US for an advanced degree and working in US has much more chance of success than other options.

Office工作的大部分是研发和Reliability Engineer
大部分应该是上井的Field Speacialist
美国这边以Onshore Shale Gas为主
