No wonder many US professors don't give a damn to Chinese students.
How many US professors you know?
How many US professors outside the oil and gas industrial you know?
In US, the number of Ph.D. students from what countries make up the majortiy of international Ph.D. student group? Nothing about China?
How many Chinese students you know?
How many Chinese students outside the oil and gas industry you know?
How many Chinese students you don't know?
How much you know about Chinese educational system?
How much you don't know about Chinese educational system?
Please don't be judgemental before you really know much; plese don't see only the negative aspects of Chinese students and Chinese education system.
I think what said by simbench is just a cold joke.

But I can tell you one that I soon will know.
I can't tell you how many chinese students I know because 99.99999% I only talked to them only once when I was touring the country. However I'm sure I got to know less than 0.000000000001% of all college students.
BTW, it is not "how many" that you should concern. All it needs is ONE.

The majority of international students in the U.S. consists of Chinese and Indians (perhaps also Europeans and Africans). However, in Ph.D. programs, there are generally more Indians than Chinese, while in the master's and undergraduate programs, far more Chinese.
From some aspect, American professors more or less prefer the Indians, however little you may argue the preferrence is, and overall, the Indian students are doing, with all due respect, better than us Chinese.
Moreover, it is a fact that the quality of the education in China is far from that in the U.S. The compulsory education there covers senior high school. They also have better college and upper level education, and no wonder many wealthy Chinese choose to send their children to the U.S.
You have to face the real world, bud. Ytlee is just telling the truth, and you needn't be so offensive at these questions.

I disagree. I don't think Indians are doing any better than Chinese students, at least from what I have seen.
The wealthy kids are losers. They couldn't afford to compete with other hard working students. They are just running away from the competition. US education (except higher education) is disaster. Read the latest TIMES magazine.

My adviser said I am one of two most clever students he ever had (he is 65 now and had 20+ graduate students; never had Chinese students before me). He also said he thinks Chinese and Jewish people are the two most clever people in the world. I don't think I am exceptional among Chinese students. In fact, a lot of professors I know just couldn't stop recruiting Chinese students because they are doing such a great job!
Don't make a fool of yourself.

Whom am I, if you don't know me, you don't need to know. Frankly, until I'm 6' under, i believe i'm still evolving.
I changed jobs and careers at least dozen times and I have yet to beg for a job. Will I beg for job in the future? I haven't done that all my life, I doubt that I'll do thing differently. So don't hold your breath.

here is my brief bio.
I spent my childhood in mainland china, went to hong kong when I was a teenage then came to US for my education. I went to TAMU for my BSChe and MS from Rice. I started in oil & gas career as pipeline engineer in the 70s, as offshore manager in early 80s. got fired in the 80 crash. started over and worked my way back, then the 90s crash came, when the oil company closed the door, I started my software/firmware company developing software and hardware for oil&gas industry. Other than love finding black gold, electronic and computer programming are my passions. When the 2k boom, I accepted a position from conocophillips, when my CO2 seq/EOR project was delayed, I left CoP and work for a NOC as modeller and simulation staff member for a deepwater project. If haven't working for china qualifies me as 洋奴,so be it. At least I don't steal like 近海结构 so proud of. As for 汉奸,台独分子, I have to question 近海结构 mental stage. then again, how can you rebutal a thief?

I don't think so. America is a free land where whoever is capable of discovering something or make a fortune has the right to stay. Americans now are just earlier immigrants. So it doesn't matter whether you come from China or not to settle on this land. Americans prejudice against China is rooted in ideology mostly. Besides that, I don't see any reason why US and China should compete rather than cooperate.
For Chinese students, as long as we do a good job, the prejudice will go away. However, I find it really disgusting that some Chinese people (maybe they don't think they are Chinese anymore) look down upon their own people, like the comment you quoted.
