To anyone who wonder where am I.
I just cut back my time on all chinese forums. I was a developer for few popular O&G applications, I had been monitoring the chinese forums looking for sign of certain software being cracked. When I was recovering from an illness, I had tons of free time. I selected this forum with the intenttion of leading the young chinese professions for poper usage of certain technique and career choices. After few year active in this forum, I don't feel my experience in oil&gas would benefit any chinese students because most the forum members already poisoned by misguided concept of simulation and incorrect concept of career and education. They are already blinded by the material concept of life choice. Words from this old man rub them in the wrong way.In their own words, they told me not to interfere and whom am I to take away their right of repeating the same mistakes US oilfield workers made. With my health recovered and the US offshore ban, I have the time & energy for taking on more meaningfulm project, like mentoring a new member in my offshore modeling project. So my time in this forum will be limited to monitoring. I will not participate in any discussions other than simulation and I hope I don't see any more posts asking where am I. Forum members who have my phone number and email are welcome to call/email anytime for career/oilfield related question. Others, with questions reguarding the simulation source code I published, please post here with a title starting with "G30", I will try to answer them.

I think you are the few chinese simulation practitioners who fellow the old school of simulations.
In my days, when we started a simulation project, we started with a blank paper, with the understanding of the reservoir, unique conditions of the play and collected field data and analogs. We developed the equations using the acceptable theories, practices and techniques. do the usual linearization, attach a solver. build a draft model, flush out the bug and identify the mismatches between simulated result and field data. After resolving the issues, we made the final build and with the results on hand, we build post-processor to make the result presentable to clients/management. (I full aware no company is using this practice now, but bear with me for now)
Now, all simulation projects started with selection of commercial simulators, then struggle with syntax trying to cramp the field data into the blackbox. then with shot gun method to fit a history match, then rush to do a few prediction runs. With fancy 3D graphics, sell the DWOP to the client/management as the real thing.
Some many said this is an acceptable practice because everyone is doing that.
Well, here are few problems I think you should think about next time when you look a simulation report.
1. The simulator developers have no field experience
2. The simulator users have no simulation background nor field experience.
The following problem may be unique to china & russia.
3. The output is skewed because of anti-cracking traps tripped.
4. Simulation students learn from professors who have no real experience.
The following problem associated with leading commercial simulators
5. No user manual, nor explanation for error/warning messages
I will leave you with the list of the problem, I will come back with my reasons later tonight.

Anyway, for #1. All US companies don't do simulation R&D anymore, therefore severice company, ie SLB & HLB filled the void. Unfortunately, advancing the simulation science is not their main reason. The service companies will add/solve feature/problem to the simulator only if they get funded by the client. Even the software are selling at 6 or 7 figures dollar amount, other than few high priced sales rep, there is no fund for other persons. Hence, experienced personnels moved out the field, so the people who work in the field are recent graduates.
#2, with simulators as blackboxes, even the most experienced become button pushers or form fillers. If the teacher can't tell what is inside the blackbox, how to teach the student is beyond my mental capacity.
#3, I will be a rich man if I get one single penny from each new ping shown in the ping home log of the software I wrote. I always wonder with illegal copy and very relaxed TUNING parameter, what kind of result those crackers got?

#5, to service company, each confussion is a sales opportunity. They are happy to sell you training, or take over your job if you have the buck. If you have the buck and don't hand it to the sales reps, those pesky roaches will run over you and bad mouth you to your peers and company money man until your bank accont shows a big zero. Hence, a good manual or clear message for error is simply anti-business. I'm always wonder why their users putting up with such poor product. After observing the market, I think I know why, there may be million and billion users, but how many actually paid for it. Those didn't pay can't complain, those who paid have deep pocket to have someone doing the job for them. So the big chess was right to cut the techsupport staff. Those technies drove away any business opportunities. I'm counting the days when customer support is replaced by a piece of iron.
