ytlee前辈, I am very glad to see your response.
Sorry, I described too vague.
I got the AD from UH (Master of Petroleum Engineering) and University of Louisiana at Lafayette, I can not decide to choose which one. I found too much negative information about UH on this forum, such as many professors are part-time, not worth for a full-time program. And it appears few Chinese students choose the Master of Petroleum Engineering in UH.
I wanna know whether UH is as they discussed and which PE department of the two universities is better (PE ranking)? What is the objective comments on UH? And after graduating from UH, is it hard to find a job in big oil company? Maybe what I asked is too naive, don't laugh at me please.... Thank you!

As for "many professors are part-time" because most UH professors are members of some consortium that conducting research/advice to private companies. Althought they do not spend 100% in teaching, they have excellent connection to the industry and funding.
Most the students from Mainland China are PhD students, why, I will let other forum members to answer your question. I have been out of school over 30 years and out of China over 50 years. I'm not qualify to answer this type of question.
As for working in US, getting permit to work in US is more difficult than finding a job.
As I said, here are two side of every coins, you have to weight each situation and match your preference.
BTW, I don't use ranking for selection criteria. It is so political and meaningless.

After reading what you said, I feel a little delighted, at least I don't think UH is a bad choice any more. On the contrary, I think there are more opportunities in UH.
Because there is no PE PHD program in Houston, I think most qualified students from mainland went to other schools to study PE.
As you said" getting permit to work is difficult", do you mean that some company can't provide clerk working visa? I don't know about the visa. Whether the one who works in a big company has more chance to get the permit?
Thank you!

很有道理,不知道老先生是否学过马克思主义哲学,用马克思主义哲学的话说,看问题要一分为二看,凡事有利必有弊

I got the impression talking to the young GGRes from China and South America. The number of so call "H" visa is limited. The application process is not easy, a lot of smaller companies don't employ and foreigners for that reason.

2007 and 2008, too many applicants apply for H1b, lottery was performed,(PS: I did not get the luck);
2009, I guess it still has some quotes left now (PS: I get it this time), however, job market is worse.
So, think about long term, more general aspects.
The uncertainty is the charm of life.
Welcome to Houston.

h1-b签证还是有影响的。很多小公司根本不了解H1-B签证,HR的人也不知道。他们很多时候都嫌麻烦,不知道怎么办理,干脆就不招了。
