最近得知被tamu college station 入取，是石油工程的博士项目，但是要到分校区去读，实在郁闷，不知道那边的情况如何，各位前辈能不能介绍一下？

I'm just wonder how you get accepted into such program. Can you tell me more., such as where you submit your application, the professor who interviewed you, etc

It is not me. It's gallop2046. As I know, he submitted a normal application as others to TAMU-CS and didnot have interview. In the admission letter, it was indicated that he had been admitted into the phd program of TAMU at CS but he would be expected to attend class in qatar. It is a strange arrangement. Did TAMU does that before?

I was just noticed to be admitted into TAMU's PE dept and donot know the detail yet. I am worried I would may be assigned to qatar too.

AFAIK, For undergraduate, yes, you can take course at sister school, But, for graduate student, that is unheard. All PhD candidates are expected to do some kind pf research, I really don't believe he will be going class outside CS,unless his advisor is conducting the research in Quatar, I suggest you or anyone who received such offer to contact his advisor or TAMU before making decision.

真是这种情况，和mayerster说的情况是一样的，我是向tamu，college station的石油工程系提交的PhD program的申请，很早就被告知了，入取是被tamu college station入取的，但是要去qatar读课程和做项目，导师现在还没有分配，我看了一下qatar校区的主页，都是visiting associate professor，今年qatar是第一年接受phd学生，入取信的主要部分在下面的附件当中，有没有哪位知道那边情况的，帮忙给点建议和意见，真不知道去了之后会是什么样子，以后的就业以及实习就更不好说了，大家帮帮忙啊！真痛苦！

Well, I'm shock that TAMU would pull a fast one like that to pump up the Quatar campus. I understand that there are more well funded research projects than qualified students. But it is still a shameful way to get the cheap labor (graduate students) to man these project.



Hence, if you are not comfortable with such arrangement, please do not accept the offer.

as I mentioned, there are more funded projects in Qartar than CS. Several cutting edges RDs, eg well testing, were funded by the government and well known service companies. as you know, that region is oil rich and is a good place to get hand on experience in oil field operations. If learning new tech or getting a foot into oilfield is your goal, Qarter is actually a better choice than CS. On the other hand, if you are not comfortable with their life style or have questions regarding the local political situations, i would not consider the offer even TAMU is your #1 choice.

BTW, Other may give you advices, but at the end of the day, you should go with where your heart wanted. After you make the decision, don't look back. Lost opportunities alway look good in rear mirrow, but the time and effort looking back may ruin your journey ahead.

No doubt that A&M is a great school and Qartar is a great place for PE.
No doubt that there are great opportunities for both work and study waiting for you.
No doubt that adjusting to a new life style has never been a problem for the great Chinese.
However, studying in US has been a dream for everyone who started their applications. Sometimes that's all what matters -- dreams come true.
Always stick to what you really want and never compromise on it.

不是我不想去美国啊，而是college station把我入取了，入取信上写的要去分校qatar，我也问了能不能留在分校区，小米告诉我不行啊，所以我才来这里向前辈请教，不怎么好抉择，可能qatar那边是真的缺人吧，要不也不会把我分到那边去，那边的老师水平是没有cs的好，所以一直在找知情人问那，如果去了qatar，虽然学位什么是一样的，但是可能就不能像在美国读的那样了，同样毕业之后，也不如在美国那样好找，而且也不怎么好选择就业和回国。
